'House of Cards' Binge Weekend Begins

Image
As most of you know Netflix's " House of Cards " was released today. None of The Conversations Circle members have begun watching HOC, yet. So we thought this piece in the New York Times, " 5 Things to Remember Before Watching Season 4 ", was instructive. There's also live blogging going on out there if you're interested. We're just trying to find time to start binging!

Jill Sander Navy Collection Making Us Love The Brand, Again

Image
Fashion We weren't sure how we would react to the Jil Sander brand , (When Jil Sander returned to her label in 2012, we fell in love with the brand all over again.), after Sander left the label, again, in 2013! A few of us did manage to grab a few RTW pieces during Sanders brief stay, but for the most part we avoided the brand after she left. We were checking out the Fall 2016 RTW collections on +The Cut  website, and we think creative director for Jil Sander Navy,  Rodolfo Paglialunga, nailed our desire for tailored chic. The Jill Sander Navy Collection for Fall 2016 RTW is full of the casual, layered, but cool sweater dressing (there's a coast dress too) we love. The fabrics in the collection look lush with a casual elegance. Just what we would expect from the label. You can check out the collection  here .

Will Alex Wager and Jose Diaz-Balart be Dropped at MSNBC Too?

Image
While Melissa Harris-Perry's exit from MSNBC has not been quiet. (As some suspected there was more to the story behind the Harris-Perry exit. According to Jezebel.Com MSNBC cut ties with Harris-Perry over Beyonce's "Formation" video. It seems executives at MSNBC encouraged "M.H.P" to "focus" on election coverage.) This is in stark contrast to the move to drop Alex Wagner, who is Burmese, which has been a rather low-key affair. Jose Diaz-Balart was rumored to be dropped several months ago, until Latino groups complained and MSNBC seemed to back away from that decision.  However Diaz-Balart is, once again, rumored to be dropped. (Diaz-Balart has also had a "diminished" role in recent weeks.) Now concerns are circulating in social media that diversity, sparking the hashtag #MSNBCSoWhite, is a problem at the network. Conversely, Joy Ried, who is black and hosted the "Reid Report" on MSNBC for just over a year, has faired the be

Oscars Hit 8 Year Low

Image
Ratings Sunday's 88th Academy Awards was down 3 million viewers from last year. While the show drew 34.4 million viewers, it was  the lowest viewership since 2008. (The 2005 Oscars, hosted by Chris Rock , was not among the lowest rating years.) While down in the ratings, male viewership was up across all demos. This could be attributed to interest in Chris Rock and viewers who are familiar with him as a comedian. Media outlets, so far, have not determined if the "boycott" (that was called for by prominent actors) attributed to the drop in ratings. An unofficial poll of The Conversation Circle's friends noted, there were people who decided not to watch the 2016 Oscars broadcast. Related:   2016 Oscars Opening Monologue Straight To The Point
