Oscars Hit 8 Year Low

Ratings

Sunday's 88th Academy Awards was down 3 million viewers from last year. While the show drew 34.4 million viewers, it was  the lowest viewership since 2008. (The 2005 Oscars, hosted by Chris Rock, was not among the lowest rating years.) While down in the ratings, male viewership was up across all demos. This could be attributed to interest in Chris Rock and viewers who are familiar with him as a comedian. Media outlets, so far, have not determined if the "boycott" (that was called for by prominent actors) attributed to the drop in ratings. An unofficial poll of The Conversation Circle's friends noted, there were people who decided not to watch the 2016 Oscars broadcast.
