SNL Adds first Black Woman in Six Years

Sasheer Zamata, a University of Virginia graduate with a degree in Drama, will join the "Saturday Night Live" cast on January 18. Zamata, has been honing her comedic skills with the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York. We watched a few of Zamata's videos on YouTube.  While most of the material seemed aimed at urban and racial humor, we think she'll be a good fit. Wow, it seems it took six years for Lorne Michaels to make a quick decision!

Politics Becoming Popular Spectator Sport

Politics TCC started down this road with a post yesterday, Funny Response to Trump Tweetstorm , that was a GIFF poking fun at White House press secretary Sean Spicer's response to President Trump's cell phone usage to tweet. Politics seems to be a uniting force, both pro and against Trump, on social media and in everyday conversations with Americans commenting, "Did you hear..." "How about..."  "Can you believe...." Stephen Colbert , host of CBS ' "Late Night with Stephen Colbert",  has moved from 2nd place to 1st since the inauguration of Trump. Other late-night hosts are also experiencing a boost in ratings as it appears Americans are using these vehicles as either proof of political views (confirmation or conspiracy) or just as a coping mechanism. Reviews for Kerry Washington's appearance on SNL , considering Saturday Night Live was dealing with a very public issue concerning the lack of black females on the show, seems to have focused the diversity problem (like a laser) on the writing staff as well.
