We've missed Bill Cunningham:

Would Brian Williams Be The MSNBC Fixer?

Image
We read Mark Joyella's funny piece (great dialogue) in TVNewser  that makes fun of the fact that perhaps Andy Lack may not have a grip on MSNBC's programming. While the notion that Brian Williams might consider a move to MSNBC , rather than starting fresh, it makes sense for Lack to reimagine MSNBC. We think the fix, whatever that is, for MSNBC should begin in the morning. Can Change Come To MSNBC Too Late?  Inserting Williams into a primetime slot will probably do little for MSNBC (after viewers get over the novelty of the demotion and subsequent humiliation) and even less for Williams. After all, isn't the cliche "you fail up and not down!" Op-Ed: Brian Williams’ Redemption? Fixing MSNBC | TVNewser

'Mad Men Finale Left Us Empty

Image
We were excited and actually binge-watched, as much as we could, as AMC ran every episode leading up to last night's " Mad Men"  finale, but fifteen minutes into the final episode we had an empty feeling. Perhaps it was the thought that the show was finally over, but actually we were left unsatisfied with the ending. Peggy finding love with Stan (another workaholic) made us feel even more that she was one of the women, we now know, who were the trailblazers for the women who came after them. This is evidenced by Peggy's desire to help Megan . Joan , Peggy's polar opposite, if only in appearance, had prepared herself, knowingly or not, to run her own business. She had run  Sterling Cooper and subsequently Sterling, Copper, Draper, Pryce credited or not, a full service ad agency, and that's no easy feat. Along the way Joan "handled" the men  as best as a woman of her time could. However, in the end, once her son's security was assured, Joa

Mad Men Finale Promo Evokes Emotion

Not sure how this series finale promo for AMC's  " Mad Men" will make you feel, but running over Paul Anka's " Times Of Your Life ", it gave us a lump in our throat. Some media outlets complained about the "obtuse" nature of the promo. That it may be, but it's pure emotion. It's the beginning of the end. The Mad Men finale will air May 17th.

Who's Watching 'Grace and Frankie'?

Image
The text message said "You've got to watch 'Grace and Frankie', it's funny". Then for good measure a social media post appeared, "Who's watching 'Grace and Frankie'"? Well, considering our long hiatus, and the post was from an ordinary person (we know that for a fact), we certainly did not want to miss something that was generating this kind of buzz. " Grace and Frankie ", a comedy about divorce, ageism and sexuality, is an original thirteen episode comedy from Netflix . Co-stars Joan Fonda and Lily Tomlin are forced to reinvent themselves after their husbands, played by Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston, announce "they are leaving them for each other". Considering we all have those grandparents who are apt say anything (like the grandmother in the BMW commercial), then this could be a prime opportunity for creators Marta Kauffman , (best known for "Friends") and Howard J. Morris ("Sullivan&Son&qu

'IRIS' Wit and Wisdom

Image
" IRIS " , a documentary about well-known fashion icon, interior designer and businesswoman Iris Apfel, is well worth seeing for the trove of wisdom and advice (lots of stuff your mother never told you) the ninety-three-year-old imparts! We absolutely adore Iris' sense of style and she happens to be the most interesting and witty person we've seen in a long time. IRIS opened in theaters April 29th.

After Long Hiatus The Conversation Circle Reengages

Image
It's been a long hiatus for The Conversation Circle . Some of our charter members have decided to strike out on their own and seek new adventures. With these changes in mind, I decided to reexamine what  The Conversation Circle was committed to and decided it remained the same. After all, most of us continued our conversations on different platforms and offline.  So we're up again, engaged and renewed, but, hey, we missed a lot! The enthusiasm for entertainment, current events, fashion, products we love, and hot topics being covered in the media, remains the same. We will continue to express opinions and ideas, whether individually or collectively, while trying not to go off on a tangent! We appreciate those who continued to check in with us and hope you will be there in the future. Here's to Reengaging .
