eBay Aquires Rival Hoping for a Local Edge
We read this story (see below) and were reminded of an experience one of our members had. In discussing the acquisition of its rival Devon Wenig, president of eBay Marketplaces, commented "People like to shop locally." We said, wait a minute, not so fast! A few years ago a frustrated member purchased a laundry cart she found on Amazon. The company that manufactured the cart was in California. She had purchased 3 carts locally over the years and they all fell apart sometimes within weeks. She vowed at that point, no more cheap carts, thus the Amazon search. Local is great when you need to try or taste before buying, but for anything else, we love the ability to buy the best product no matter where it is!
