Awards After last year's fiasco, which saw many performers boycotting the awards show, the nominations for the 89th Academy Awards are not "so white". A record number of African Americans, Viola Davis, Dev Patel, Octavia Spencer, Denzel Washington, Mahershala Ali, Naomie Harris and Ruth Nega have been nominated for acting. Golden Globes 2017 Winners List Viola Davis who won a Golden Globe for her role in Fences, as Best Supporting Actress, has also made history as the first African American to get three Oscar nominations.
